Community Involvement and Awards
Microsoft Partnership  

OneWhoServes, Inc. joined the Microsoft Partnership in March, 2004. Our technicians are able to team with Microsoft in providing technological support and assistance to our clients. This certification enables us to serve both small and large businesses as well as residential clients.

Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce - Black Mountain-Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce  

OneWhoServes, Inc. has been a member of both the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Black Mountain-Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce since our beginning in April, 2000. Gordon attends many events sponsored by the AACoC as do other members of our staff. We also participate in BMSCoC events throughout the year.

Sky High Growth Award  

The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce awarded OneWhoServes, Inc. with their Sky High Growth Award in 2003 and 2004. The yearly award is presented to less than 40 businesses out of the more than 2000 members of the Chamber. In each of these years OneWhoServes, Inc. grew more than 70% in sales, and increased our staff and the number of clients served.

Small Business of the Month Award  

In March, 2004, the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce honored OneWhoServes, Inc. with the Small Business of the Month award. This accolade is presented to 12 businesses per year out of the more than 2000 member businesses. Criteria for the award include having a solid financial base, being considered successful by peers, supporting an expanding number of employees, showing sales and/or profit growth, and demonstrating contributions to public service.

Executive Association of Greater Asheville  

Gordon Walton has been an active member of the Executive Association of Greater Asheville (EAGA) since 2000. EAGA is a business owners group made up of a large variety of area businesses which meet weekly. The members support each other with referrals, business services and products, business management and leadership expertise, and advice. He currently serves on their Board of Directors.

Hospitality House of Asheville  

Gordon currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Hospitality House of Asheville. Hospitality House is a wonderful nonprofit in Asheville that offers shelter, food, and services to the area's homeless population. Gordon has been involved at Hospitality House since 1998, and considers their services a true asset to the community.

Leadership Asheville  

Gordon was a participant in Leadership Asheville, 2004. Leadership Asheville is a dynamic program which meets monthly. This program is dedicated to developing productive leaders focused on building vibrant, thriving communities through innovative leadership education, programs, and experiences, and by building relationships with area business, community, and government leaders. The group of participants is broken into subgroups which meet more often to create a service oriented project. Gordon's group is working with Youth Leadership Asheville and with Helpmate to build awareness about the dangers of domestic and sexual violence to area high schools students. Gordon graduated from Leadership Asheville in May of 2005.

Girls' Basketball Team Sponsor  

Since 2003 OneWhoServes, Inc. has been a sponsor for a girls' basketball team through Black Mountain Recreation and Parks. Our sponsorship helps offset the costs for gym rental, custodial fees, and referees; corporate support keeps the program accessible for everyone and lessens the participants' cost.

Piedmont Biofuels Cooperative  
Tobias Crawley is a working member of the Piedmont Biofuels Cooperative. This group focuses on the production, advocacy, and delivery of biodiesel. Biodiesel is a fuel made from a mixture of vegetable oil, methanol, and potassium hydroxide that can be used in diesel engines. Biodiesel is non-toxic and creates less pollution than petroleum based diesel.
Adopt-A-Street  
In October 2005, OneWhoServes,Inc adopted Ashland Avenue. Ashland Avenue is in downtown Asheville and runs from Patton Ave to McDowell Street. The staff at OneWhoServes, Inc. has committed to clean up the street at least 4 times a year, with a goal of service to our community through keeping the streets of Asheville free of trash.
Pastoral Care Course - Mission Hospital  
Linnea Walton took a 10 week course in Pastoral Care training at Mission Hospital from September to November 2006. The course prepares participants for and gives them one-on-one experience in making chaplain visits to patients. The training can also be used in various other healthcare settings.
